How to Get Jobs in a Daycare

Working in a daycare does not always seem like a glamorous job. Long hours and low pay are staples for those who work in daycare centers. However, those who work hard and stay at a center for a period of time will be rewarded for their efforts.

  1. Understand that a college education is not necessary to work at a daycare center. In fact, some college students find it a great way to earn extra money as they work their way through college. Some states may require you to take certain classes before you are a licensed daycare worker. Research your state’s requirement in advance. If you can take care of those before you look for work, you will greatly increase your chance of finding a job.

  2. Prepare a resume that you will hand out at daycare centers as you make your search.  Your resume should be professional-looking and highlight your experiences with children. A daycare center will want to know that you will love the children and will work well with them. Highlight your experiences with children so that the center knows that you are qualified for the job.

  3. Visit several daycare centers in the area and meet with the owner or hiring manager. Although face to face interviews are important in any professional field, they are even more so for a daycare center worker. Show the boss that you are energetic and have a can-do attitude. Keep visiting daycare centers in your area until you find the job you are looking for.
