How to Get Nail Polish Out of Carpet

Nail polish contains color as well as ingredients that allow it to adhere to any surface until nail polish remover is used to remove it. It is important to remove spilt nail polish from a carpet as soon as possible, before it dries. You can successfully remove the nail polish with basic supplies you have at home.

How to Get Nail Polish Out of Carpet

1. Pour baking soda over the nail polish stain. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes. The baking soda will absorb the nail polish without spreading it deeper into the carpet fibers.

2. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda.

3. Fill a bowl with one cup of vinegar. Dab a clean cloth in the bowl of vinegar. Blot the nail polish stain with the cloth starting from the outside of the stain. Do not scrub or smear the nail polish because it will seep deeper into the carpet fibers.

4. Continue dipping the cloth into the vinegar and blotting the stain until you reach the middle of the stain.

5. Spray three squirts of window clean on the nail polish stain. Blot the area with a clean cloth until all of the stain is gone.

6. Spread a clean cloth over the stain and allow it sit on the spot for two hours. Remove the cloth and allow the carpet to dry. You can add a fan to speed up the drying process. For stubborn stains, repeat the process once more.
