How to Get Quotes for Home Shelves
When it’s time to replace the shelves in your home, make the effort to compare different prices so you get the best deal. Getting different quotes for your home shelves allows you to see what is available to choose from and what cost you can expect to pay in the future. From there you can make a decision and set a budget.
- Measure and count the shelves you have to replace, or how many you want to buy so you can write down how many you need and what sizes. Be sure that measurements are accurate, and also include any additional hardware that may need to be purchased on the list.
- Open up the Web browser on your computer, and go to a search engine like Google or Yahoo. Type in “home shelves and cabinetry (your city).” Write down the companies and their locations of home galleries in town that sell shelves or do custom shelf building or orders.
- Search craigslist or Angie’s List for carpenters looking for side work, or who do small jobs. Write down their information, including name and phone number.
- Go to Home Depot and Lowe’s, or another large home store and take your measurements. Price out the cost of the shelves and ask about installation costs if you cannot do it yourself. Also ask about any additional hardware that may be needed. Write down the different quotes from each store.
- Shop at local places you found earlier. Again ask about the price, installation fees, and the cost of hardware if it is needed. Since these may be smaller businesses, and they aren’t under corporate restrictions, try to negotiate the price to fit into your budget.
- Call the local carpenters and ask about prices, and tell them what you need. Have them come out to quote the project and explain to them exactly what you want.
- Ask people you know if they recommend a certain company or carpenter for the project or if they have had any work done with anyone you are considering using for your home.
- Sit down and go over all of the quotes, and decide where you can save the most money and who will do the best job for you. Negotiate if you must to get the price down to suit your budget.
