How to Get Rid of Hair Static

Because of the low temperatures and dry air, the winter season can leave you fighting static electricity in your hair. There are a few hair products available that can help tame fly away hair as well as household appliances and products. If you are looking for ways to get rid of hair static, consider following some of these tips.

1.  Consider the hair products you use. When in the shower, make sure to use a good conditioner. The conditioner will help add moisture to your hair. Other products include serums that are made especially for static hair. Try to avoid hairspray as it can cause your hair to dry out even more. If blow drying, use a heat protecting spray. This will help protect the hair against the blow dryer by sealing in the moisture.

2.  Use quality brushes and combs. Use a brush that has stiff and wide bristles. Plastic bristles can cause static.

3.  Ionic hair dryers. These types of dryers help to create a balance in the electrical charge of the hair.

4.  Use a humidifier. Consider using a humidifier in your home. This helps to balance the humidity in the air, cutting back of the static electricity.

5.  Dryer sheets work on hair. Try taking a dryer sheet through your hair to help reduce the static. Oftentimes, getting dressed can cause static in the hair and this is a quick fix. Just be careful because a little too much can cause the hair to become greasy.

6.  Hand moisturizer.  Moisturizer isn’t just for hands. Another quick fix for static hair is to add a thin layer of moisturizer to your hands and run it through your hair.  The moisturizer weights down the hair causing reduction of static.
