How to Get Rid of Mold Damage in Your House

Mold can be a very dangerous toxin, especially in the home. If left untreated, depending on the type of mold and the amount of mold, it can be deadly. This is why it is extremely important to get rid of mold as soon as it is found. However, if the mold found growing in your home is more than one square meter, it is recommended to contact a remediation specialist.

Items Needed

  • Plastic

  • Gloves

  • Mask

  • Household detergent

  • Throw away cloth

1. Find the source of the mold. It is important to find the source of the mold first and fix it to prevent it from coming back. Mold needs three things to live and these include oxygen, a source of food and water. If there is water nearby, check for a water leak and fix it to prevent the mold from returning.

2. Turn the furnace or the air conditioner off before removing the mold. Close the area off with plastic to contain dust and mold spores.

3. Use gloves and a mask when removing the mold so it does not get in your lungs and on your skin. Have a plastic bag ready to place the gloves and mask in when done cleaning to properly throw away.

4. Use a regular household detergent to remove the mold with and a throw away cloth. Wash and dry the area where mold is found carefully and thoroughly. Check the area the next day for any mold dust particles left behind. If there are any left behind, repeat this process because mold dust particles can be just as dangerous as the mold itself.

5. Throw away the gloves and mask in a plastic bag and discard properly when you are satisfied the mold damage is gone from your home. If you are not satisfied, call a remediation specialist for help.
