How to Get Roadside Service When You Travel

When the unthinkable happens it’s nice to have roadside service when you travel. As you plan to travel take into account what to do if your vehicle breaks down or if you get into an accident. A cell phone is the first choice that most people use to contact roadside services, like a tow truck. If your cell doesn’t work or you can’t use it there are other options you can use.

  1. Raise your hood if you break down or need help even if it is not mechanical. The international sign of a motorist in trouble is a raised hood. Almost every mechanic knows this sign of distress and may pull over to help you. Tow truck drivers will slow down and take account of where you are and may even stop to ask if you need a tow. Once you know help is one the way, lower your hood and sit patiently in the vehicle while help arrives.

  2. Plan ahead and pay for an on call service. With one push of the button, all your troubles seem to simply melt away. Your vehicle can be installed with a button to call a service company that can help you when you are lost or broken down. If you are in an accident some on call services will call your vehicle to check on your situation.

  3. Choose correctly when you pick a tow service. If you are traveling in a RV be sure that your service of choice can handle such large vehicles. Most services can haul a RV, but it is nice to tell them before they arrive.

If you count solely on your cell phone, you risk putting yourself in a hard situation. When traveling a long distance always count on yourself; you should always pack water, food and basic needs. Have a first aid kit in the vehicle and even a tent. Call ahead and tell your destination when to expect you, because the best roadside assistance is always family and friends!
