How to Get Storage Shelf Space

If you have been thinking you need more cupboard or closet space due to the fact that yours is crammed full, give it another thought. It is possible that you won’t have to spend a dime to get a lot more space. There may not be any installation or any extra shelving necessary.

  • The first great way to gain storage shelf space is to have a junk day. That’s correct, a ‘junk day.' Many people have shelves full of things that they just can’t part with. They are there just in case you may need them one day. Have a ‘hide and seek’ gathering session in your home and every weekend tackle another storage area in the house. Take everything out of the storage area, and throw away stuff you haven’t used in the past five years. You most likely can now start planning your next garage sale…

  • After you have ‘de-junked’ your storage areas you can now re-organize what you still have in there. Part of that ‘de-junking’ should have been elimination of out of date items in the kitchen, clothing in closets that you honestly know will never be worn again and so on. So in the re-organization of what’s left, put things back on the rear of shelving that you know is not used much or not at all.

  • Consider putting things that are rarely used on top of all shelving. You rarely get up there anyway and this way you won’t have to.

  • Next take stock of your basement or garage area. Those are perfect places to put items that can hang on walls or be placed on wall shelving. And if you don’t have that shelving, it is truly very inexpensive to install. And that is the first time purchasing anything has been mentioned here. All this could even be paid for with the money from your garage sale of the stuff you are eliminating that you don’t need to store to begin with.
