How to Use Rubber Ear Syringes

How to Get Water into Rubber Ear Syringes

A rubber syringe has a multitude of uses including removing mucus form the mouth or nose of a baby. It's important that the syringe is properly cleaned after each use to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. In order to do so you'll need to get water into the syringe in a process similar to its use for mucus removal.

What You'll Need:

  • Warm water

  • Soap

  • Glass

  • Small container

  • Alcohol

  1. Pour an ample amount of warm soapy water into a small container. Place the tip of the rubber ear syringe into the soap and water mixture. Once inserted, firmly squeeze the larger upper round part or bulb using your thumb.

  2. Begin to slowly release the pressure around the bulb of the rubber ear syringe to fill it with the soap and water mixture. Once filled, swish the mixture around inside the bulb by vigorously shaking the entire ear syringe.

  3. Using your thumb, press down on the bulb portion of the rubber ear syringe to empty all of the water. Repeat the previous steps but eliminate the soap to get clean water into the rubber ear syringe. Shake the water once again vigorously in order to thoroughly clean the syringe then release the water.

  4. Lastly, sterilize the rubber ear syringe using alcohol. Fill a small container with alcohol and fill the bulb of the syringe with alcohol by applying pressure with your thumb. Just as you did with the water, swish the alcohol vigorously inside the bulb and then release it. Place the rubber ear syringe inside a clean glass with the tip facing downward. Allow it to remain in that position until it has completely drained before use.
