How to Get a Better Skate Park in Your Hometown

The people who have the capability to change the hometown skate park often don't see the skate park; therefore shortcomings need to be brought to the attention of those in charge. Asking for a better skate park in your area can be easy if you go through the right channels.

  • Know what needs to be changed. Asking for a skate park upgrade simply because you want to try a new trick on fancy new equipment might not get any response. Document your legitimate concerns so that the people in charge can see the changes that need to be made. Take pictures or video of broken or damaged equipment. If the skate park is too small, show it on a crowded day and note the safety concerns.

  • Write a letter to the mayor, congressman or other government official that represents your city. Usually you can search online for the proper person to write in regards to making changes in the town. Send them the pictures or ask them to view your video.

  • Ask for assistance from the professionals. If your hometown skate park is in dire need of repairs and updating, write to professional skateboarders and let them know about your cause. Be sure to include pictures and a well worded argument for why you think your hometown needs a better skate park. Many professional skaters operate charities which assist towns in rehabilitating their skate parks.

  • Contact the newspaper. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Getting information in the newspaper is a good way to get people to rally around your cause.
