How to Get a Federal Government Accounting Job
An accounting career is highly lucrative. But an accounting career through the federal government includes highly coveted benefits. The federal government offers their employees a competitive salary, government health and dental care, and a wide array of life insurance options.
How to Get a Federal Government Accounting Job:
Step 1: Complete a Bachelor of Business in Accounting degree program. The college or university that you attend should be accredited by the United States Department of Education.
Step 2: Apply for the CPA exam. Once you file your application for the CPA exam, the state board will schedule a date and time for you to take the exam in four parts. Once you pass the exam you will become a licensed CPA.
Step 3: Gain experience in accounting. You will need at least five years of accounting experience before you apply for a federal government accounting job.
Step 4: Complete a Master of Business in Accounting degree program. You should attend graduate school while you are working with an accounting firm. Higher degrees count for a few years of experience. This will be the difference between receiving an entry-level or a higher paying accounting job with the federal government.
