How to Get a License to Move Mobile Homes
Moving a mobile home has changed over the years. People used to simply hook up a trailer to a farm tractor and pull it to its new location. Times have changed and new laws have been put into effect to protect the safety of motorists and individuals when traveling on open roads.
Individuals who plan to move a mobile home have to have a CDL license: this is a commercial license that can be obtain by taking a special test at your local Department of Motor Vehicles. Most individuals will be required to drive a truck during the road test. This is a required law in most states. Once all the necessary tests are passed the Department of Motor Vehicles will issue you your CDL license. This license can be used to transport mobile homes from one location to the next.
The law also requires that a special truck is to be used for moving the trailer to its location safely. The trucks are equipped with special lights that warn motorists of a wide load coming down the road. Individuals will also need permits to relocate the home. The permit is known as a move permit. If a trailer is moved without a "move" permit a citation can be given if discovered. Individuals should check within their state about the laws in moving mobile homes.
