How to Get a National Security Internship

Securing an internship with the National Security Agency is an excellent way for college students to gain experience in the national security and law enforcement fields. Most national security interns are currently enrolled in a program that focuses on terrorism studies or homeland security.

  1. Familiarize yourself with the different types of internships offered by the National Security Agency. Most of the student programs with the federal agency are offered during the summer break between the spring and fall semesters. The different internships focus on varying aspects of national security; such as language skills, computer skills, and intelligence analysis.

  2. Select the internship that best fits your career goals and complete the required application and other documents. You will need to submit a resume that includes your college GPA, major, anticipated graduation date, and any courses that you have taken that are relevant to the internship.

  3. Discuss letters of recommendation with some of your favorite professors. You will need two letters of recommendation in order to secure an internship with the National Security Agency. The professors should specialize in teaching classes that are relevant to the desired internship field.

  4. Prepare the other forms of documentation required to apply for a national security internship. You will need to secure a transcript from your school as well as some other related documents specified by the particular internship program.

  5. Check to make sure that you have fully and correctly completed your application and resume. Once you are certain of the documents' quality, submit the paperwork to the specified email or street address.
