How to Get an Appointment With a Cardiologist
Cardiologists diagnose and treat heart-related conditions. If you have concerns about certain aspects of your health that need a cardiologist's attention, do not hesitate to see one. Sometimes it is difficult to get an appointment to see a cardiologist, but there are some strategies you can utilize to ensure you get an appointment quickly.
- Set up an appointment to see your primary care physician. Explain to your doctor why you want to see a cardiologist, and ask for a referral. Your request will be granted if your doctor sees a need to consult a cardiologist. If your doctor refers you, you will likely get an appointment faster than you would if you try to get one on your own.
- Call the cardiologist's office to confirm that the referral has been received and book an appointment. In some cases, the cardiologist's office will set up an appointment for you and send you a notification of the date and time of your appointment, but many times you will be expected to call and schedule after they have received the referral. Phone the cardiologist's office to find out if the referral has been received and make an appointment. If the referral has not been received yet, leave your contact information so they can inform you when it arrives.
- Fill out the required paperwork. This can be sent by mail before the appointment date, or it may be given to you at the appointment. You'll need to provide details about yourself and your medical history. You may also be asked about symptoms you are having.
- Return the completed forms according to instructions. If the forms were sent to you by post, you may be asked to return them when you arrive for your appointment, or return them by mail. But if you filled out the forms at the clinic simply hand them to the receptionist if instructed to do so. Follow the instructions you are provided.
