How to Prepare for Veneers Dentistry

How to Get an Insurance Company to Cover Veneers Dentistry

Insurance companies do not like to pay for cosmetic procedures, and you can expect a fight when you try. It doesn’t hurt to check with your insurance company to see exactly what the policy covers.  Usually the exceptions of non-payment are if medical health is in involved.

  1. Call your insurance company, policy in hand to check exactly what is covered. Veneers are typically done for appearance reasons, not medical.

  2. If you have veneers currently and they have deteriorated, it is possible your insurance may replace them. If this is the case, the deterioration will need to be monitored by a dentist.

  3. Try submitting a pre-treatment estimate from your dentist to the insurance company. A claim for veneers will be rejected outright since it is cosmetic. Ask the insurance company to replace your veneers with crowns, and it should get approved. Then the dental office needs to write back to the insurance company saying it would be in your best interest to have full replacement veneers. This might get approved.

  4. If you are suffering a serious health issue such as bone loss, your primary health insurance could be used to pay for veneers. You would need to consult with a surgeon who specializes in bone abnormalities of the jaw.

  5. Serious injury to a jaw or face in an automobile accident will require the insurance company to pay for veneers, but only if you lost your teeth in an accident.

  6. Expect to be disappointed. With the high cost of dental veneers and other cosmetic procedures, insurance companies rarely pay for these procedures, no matter the underlying reason.
