- Wash and condition your hair. Use specialized volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Be sure to keep conditioner away from your scalp, which can lead to limp hair. When conditioner seeps into the roots, it weighs them down and makes the hair limp.
- Towel dry your hair and combing out tangles. Apply volumizing mousse and root lifter to your hair.
- Flip your head upside down and begin blow-drying. Start at the roots and lift sections with your fingers while directing the heat upward. Continue drying your hair in this manner until it is almost dry.
- When hair is almost dry, flip it back over your shoulders. Using a brush, comb your hair back at the roots to give it more lift.
- Spray your roots with hair spray. This will add volume and allow the hair to stay in place. You can also tease your hair at this point; however that is not recommended as it can cause breakage.
