Knowing how to gift wrap a box is a very helpful skill. Coming in handy for birthdays, weddings, holidays and other special occasions, the ability to properly gift wrap can save a lot of time and money, and in fact provide one more way to personalize the gift itself. With a few basic supplies, anyone can learn to wrap a gift box attractively.
Things You Need
- Gift box
- Wrapping Paper
- Tape Measure
- Clear Adhesive Tape
- Scissors
- Ribbon
- Fill the gift box with the gift and tissue paper to make sure the gift is secured in place. Secure the lid to the body of the box with a short strip on each of the four sides of the lid.
- Lay the wrapping paper on a flat surface. Make sure to place the paper so that the designed side is facing downward and the plain side is facing up.
- Position the gift box on the wrapping paper. Make sure the lid of the box is facing down. Use the tape measure to ensure there is enough paper to adequately cover all sides of the box, then use the scissors to cut the desired length and width of paper for the job.
- Fold one side of the wrapping paper over the box. Ideally, the end of the paper will come to slightly over the middle of the box. Secure the end to the box with a couple pieces of tape.
- Measure and fold over the opposite end of the wrapping paper, taking care to crease the fold. The idea is to hide the raw edge created when the paper was cut with the scissors. Fold this end over the exposed side of the box, making sure the end overlaps the opposing end that is already taped into position. Pull gently to make sure the paper is taut and straight, then secure with a couple pieces of tape.
- Create the leaves to cover the remaining two ends of the box. This can be accomplished by folding the two longer ends inward toward one another and securing with a piece of tape. For the other two ends, fold under to create a triangle effect, bringing the points of the two triangles together. Make sure the paper is flat, then secure with a piece of tape. Repeat the process on the other side of the box.
- Decorate with ribbon. Be creative with the ribbon. A simple criss cross that meets in the middle of the top of the box, then used to create a simple bow is a timeless look. You can also do an off center cross of the ribbon, or even a simple ribbon that goes top to bottom or side to side. Affixing a box over the area where the crossing takes place works well, or you can also use other elements, such as sprigs of greenery, flowers, or even lollipops or other types of candy for something more interesting.
