How to Give a Chair Massage

A good chair massage does an excellent job loosening up the muscles and getting rid of pain.  Your friends and family don’t have to go to a spa in order to enjoy the benefits of a chair massage.  You can give them a chair massage in the comfort of your own home.  Extensive experience isn’t necessary to give a relaxing chair massage.

Things you will need to give a chair massage include:

  • Body oil

  • A chair

Instructions

  1. Concentrate on the areas you can massage while someone is sitting in a chair.  Don’t worry about the lower back because it’s not in the right area to be massaged.  Focus on massaging the deltoid, nape and clavicle area of the body.

  2. Apply body oil to the areas you are massaging.  Body oil makes the massage more pleasant for you and the person who is receiving the massage.  The benefits include lubricating and hydrating the body.  This allows you to work the areas more easily.

  3. Massage the nape, base of the neck and shoulders.  Be sure to be gentle because these areas tend to have many knots.  Use different levels of pressure and stay away from strong pressure because it may make the person uncomfortable.  When massaging the neck, be sure to use the thumb to add more pressure.  Then use your fingers to create less.

  4. Use the heel of your palm in a circular motion to apply pressure for the upper back to shoulder blade area.  The back has big muscle groups and this makes using circular motions easier.  The pressure applied to the back muscles as well as gentle pounding of the fists will loosen up the muscles.

  5. Put your hands around the arm and gently pull it.  Do this from the shoulders down to the fingers.  Hold the arm and stretch it toward you and employ gentle wringing motions.  Do the same technique to the hands and fingers.  Hold the person’s wrist in a gentle manner and rotate the hands clockwise and then counter-clockwise.  Grab the fingers one at a time and stretch them.
