How to Glaze Wood Windows

Wooden windows require them to be glazed so that the glass panes can be sealed. The glazing will harden and will keep the glass in place securely. You can seal the window with the glaze yourself in just a few hours.

Things you will need:

  • Putty knife

  • Window glazing

  • Glaziers points

  • Flat bladed screwdriver

  1. Look over the sides of the glass pane. Make sure that on each side of the perimeter are small bits of diamond shaped metals. This will ensure that the glass will stay in place until you have applied the glaze.

  2. Install any missing glazier points by using the flat bladed screwdriver tip behind the ridge in the middle and push it into the wood.

  3. In your hands roll a good size glob of the glaze about a golf ball size until you have it in a rope shape.

  4. Pressing firmly against the wood and the glass apply the glaze to the window.

  5. Use your putty knife to press the glaze into place. Pull the putty knife along the side of the glaze until all the glaze is securely in place.

  6. Remove any extra glaze from the window.

  7. Repeat the above steps until all the glass panes have been sealed with the glaze.

  8. Let the glaze set for at least two days before you use the window again. You can touch the glaze after the two days and make sure it is completely set and dry before trying to operate the window.
