How to Glue on Body Repair Panels

If you have recently been in an accident or your car is simply showing signs of wear and tear, you probably cringe at the thought of paying for body repairs.  You will be happy to learn that you can apply body repair panels yourself, to help cover the damage and improve your car's appearance.

  1. Gather your supplies.  You will need basic cleaning supplies, such as warm water and soap.  You will also need towels, a small amount of gasoline, auto body glue and your repair parts.

  2. Prepare for installation.  Make sure that your vehicle is parked on level ground in a well-lit area to ensure security and proper lighting.  Wash the parts of the vehicle that you will be repairing.  Use warm water and a mild soap.  Allow the vehicle to dry completely.

  3. Prepare for the glue application.  Wear gloves and apply a small amount of gasoline to a hand towel.  Wipe the area where you will be applying the glue.  Wiping the area with gasoline will help to remove any oils from the car's surface.  The presence of oil will prevent the glue from drying properly and make your repair job less effective.  Allow the gasoline to evaporate before moving on to the next step.

  4. Apply the auto body glue.  Apply a fair amount of glue to the body of the vehicle.  Apply a small amount of glue to the replacement part, as well.  Adhere the replacement part to the frame of the vehicle and use a towel to quickly wipe away any excess glue that escapes from around the edges of the repair part.  Hold the replacement part in place for a few minutes to allow the glue to set.  Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours.
