How to Grow Clematis From Seeds
Clematis represents over 300 different species of flowers. These flower vines are commonly grown in gardens, and are either annual or perennials. The flowers are typically all in the shape of a star, but come in a wide variety of colors. The average germination time when growing Clematis from seeds can take up to six months.
Items Needed:
- Seeds
- Compost
- Sharp sand
- Potting soil
- 4 inch pots
- Mister
- Locate a healthy Clematis plant and gather the seeds. Wait until the seed heads dry and unfurl to collect your seeds. Then take the cotton part away from seeds that are brown in color. Don't worry if some cotton remains.
- Mix together seed compost and sharp sand. Use three parts of compost to one part of sand. When mixed, this creates a rich base for your seeds.
- Moisten the mixture you just created with a small amount of water.
- Fill your four-inch pots with the compost mixture. Leave around a 1/2-inch of space at the top of the pots.
- Press a seed into the soil gently. You can place one seed in every square inch.
- Add a thick layer of compost mixture above the seeds you planted. This layer should be about 1/4-inch.
- Put your pots in a cool, shaded area. They should get indirect sunlight.
- Use a mister to water the plants daily.
- Put the pots into partial sunlight when the outside temperature reaches 60 degrees Fahrenheit. They should start to germinate soon.
- Plant the Clematis vines in your garden once they have grown six inches. Once planted, they can grow to be up to eight feet high.
