How-to Guide for First Time House Movers
Moving the contents of a house requires more planning and care than moving from your parents home or from an apartment. Houses have more rooms, more levels and more room to store keepsakes. Planning to move from a house for the first time can be intimidating, but organizing is the key to success and will ensure your move goes perfectly.
- Find boxes wither in the community for free or buy them from a storage facility. You will need to pack you small items first. Wrap fragile items in newspaper of their original boxes if you still have them. Packing and accounting for the little things takes the most time.
- Tape box securely, when moving boxes shift and unsecured boxes can spill out causing a mess or broken items. Mark your boxes for each room they will go in once you arrive at your new house. Anything that does not end up in a box you can throw or give away. Don't make a habit of taking unwanted items, it is ok to giving or throwing things away when you move.
- Cover your bigger but fragile items with sheets or blankets. This will help protect the items for scratches during the move. Make sure your movers understand the type of care your special items need before moving day.
- Keep a list of items you have packed and keep this until you have fully unpacked at your new house. If you account for everything now, you will eliminate finding out you have lost something months later. Check off items as you see them come into the new house.
