How to Hand Wash Swimsuits
After a long day in the pool, you may need to wash your swimsuit. This is especially true if it is the end of the season and you won't be in the water for a while. To keep your swimsuit looking new, it is best to carefully wash by hand.
1. Head to the bathroom where there is a sink. You should choose a laundry detergent that is specifically formulated for washing garments by hand. Woolite is a good choice because it is a mild and gentle detergent. You can also find detergents created specifically for laundering bathing suits. These do exist, but may have to be ordered online.
2. Rinse the swimsuit under cold running water. Leave the drain plug open so the sink will not fill with water. This allows any materials or debris trapped in the suit to loosen before washing.
3. Fill the sink with cold water and add the recommended amount of detergent as the water is running. Swish your hand through the water to mix the soap into the water.
4. Place the swimsuit in the water. Gently work the suds through the garment. Read and follow the instructions on the detergent if soaking the garment is recommended.
5. Drain the water from the sink. Place the swimsuit under cold running water. Rinse thoroughly.
6. Remove the swimsuit from the sink. Gently press the water from the garment, but do not wring or twist the material; this will cause the swimsuit to lose its shape. Place the swimsuit on a dry bath towel on a flat surface. Allow it to fully dry before storing.
