How to Hang Vinyl Siding

  1. Prepare the surface of the home by removing old siding.

  2. The starter trim and corner molding should be hung before the vinyl siding. There should be 2 inches between the corner molding and starter trim.

  3. Hang all undersill trim on overhang and around the windows before hanging the siding.

  4. Start hanging the siding near the bottom of the house. Place the vinyl into the starter trim. You should be able to move it side to side. Leave 1 inch on each side that goes into the corner molding.

  5. Use 1 1/2 inch of aluminum nails in the slots of the vinyl siding. The nails should protrude a quarter of an inch. Each piece of vinyl siding should overlap another piece of siding by approximately 1 1/2 inches.

  6. Continue placing each row of vinyl siding.

  7. When you reach any windows or the top of the house, trim the siding to fit.
