How to Hang a Bathroom Sink

If you have a small space for your bathroom and need to utilize every inch of it, you may want to consider hanging your bathroom sink. A hanging bathroom sink doesn't require a cabinet or pedestal for support, which gives you more space to utilize on the bathroom floor.

What You'll Need:

  • Measuring tape

  • Stud finder

  • Keyhole saw

  • 2 x 12 inch board

  • Hammer

  • Nails

  • Drill

  • Drywall screws

  • Fiberglass mesh drywall tape

  • Drywall compound

  • Putty knife

  • Sand paper

  • Paint

  • Paintbrush

  • Wood screws

  1. Use your measuring tape to measure the distance between the floor and the exact position on the wall where you plan to install the top of the sink. Typically, the height of a sink will range between thirty and thirty-eight inches from the ground. Make a mark that is somewhere between these measurements on your wall.

  2. In the wall between the studs, install a blocking board at the exact location of the sink install. In order to complete this step you'll need to use a stud finder to help you locate the studs and make a mark of their location.

  3. Use a keyhole saw to take out the 16 x 16 inch piece of drywall that is in the position between the two studs. Do so at the location where you initially measured the installation point of your sink. Then, nail a 2 x 12 inch board between these two boards.

  4. Screw in the piece of drywall you removed earlier to block the board using the drywall screws that are placed at each corner of the piece of drywall. Cover all of the seams using fiberglass mesh drywall tape and attach the tape to the drywall piece and the original wall.

  5. Spread out several layers of drywall compound all over the seams and screws using a putty knife. You'll want to ensure that the layer is thin and not too think. Allow each layer to dry completely before adding additional layers. Use sand paper to sand the entire area around the compound until it is smooth. Use paint to match the area to the surrounding wall.

  6. Position and attach the mounting brackets on the wall by using wood screws. Then, attach the faucet and the drain onto the bathroom sink and place the sink on the bracket.

  7. Using the anchor bolts that came along with the mounting hardware, secure the sink to the bracket. Connect the drain and supply line to complete the project.
