Pollution and Its Effects on Humans

How to Help Prevent Air Pollution

Air pollution is bad for the environment and prevention is the only solution.  To prevent air pollution, use transportation methods like biking and walking to cut down on car use.  Also, use public transportation to travel to work and avoid the use of aerosol products.

  • Use transportation methods like biking, walking, and jogging for travel.  This should be done when going short distances, or traveling to work to cut down on car usage.  Car usage causes much air pollution and using alternative transportation will cut down on this pollution.

  • Use public transportation to travel to work.  This reduces air pollution by sharing transportation with many people and stopping excessive car use.  To take public transportation, look for bus or train stations that offer park and ride services.  This service allows you to drive to stations near you and take transportation to work.   Contact the transit system in your town to inquire about park and ride services, if you are unsure where these stations are located.

  • Avoid the use of aerosol items in the home.  These items pollute the air and alternatives should be found.  Use spray cleaners and solid deodorants to avoid this pollution.  Also, consider using hair products like gel to reduce the use of aerosol hairspray.

  • Purchase cars that get good gas mileage and produce less pollution.  These cars are often newer cars, and will have these items advertised during purchase.  Also, keep cars up to date with maintenance and engine checks so cars stay in the best condition.  This allows for less air pollution because the proper amount of gas and oil will be burned while driving.
