How to Identify Sources of Water Pollution

How to Help Stop Pollution

Pollution is a huge problem in this country effecting our air, water and soil. The effects of pollution are widespread leading to contaminants being introduced into our air, water supply and food supply. Although not one person can stop pollution from occurring, you can do your part to help.

  • Much pollution is added to the air through vehicles. The exhaust fumes from the millions of vehicles on the road everyday add to the amount of air pollution that is present. You can do your part in stopping pollution by carpooling with friends, family and co-workers or riding a bike to and from local destinations.

  • Recycle trash to help stop the pollution of the soil. Garbage piles up in landfills throughout the country due to consumer use. Taking the time to recycle will reduce the amount of trash in landfills, as well as allow new items to be created from the old items that have been recycled.

  • Use organic cleaning supplies instead of commercial cleaners that contain many harsh chemicals. The use of these chemicals adds to the pollution problem, and is terrible to inhale as well. There are a variety of organic earth-friendly cleaners on the market today.

  • Avoid using fertilizers and pesticides that are not organic. Many people use these products to keep lawns looking nice. However, the chemicals that are contained in these products lead to an increase in soil and water pollution due to the chemicals traveling throughout the soil and into nearby water sources.

  • Make sure that you dispose of products that are not good for the environment according to the proper guidelines. Oil, batteries and electronic devices contain harsh chemicals that contribute to soil and air pollution. If these items are simply put in with the rest of the trash, they will end up in a landfill where it will cause further pollution to the earth.
