How to Hire Auto Detail Shop Employees
The owner of an auto detailing shop may need to find employees to expand the business or to replace employees who have recently left the company. The owner can try advertising or using local contacts to find employees. Interviewing applicants will help the owner to find the right person for the job.
- Place an advertisement in the newspaper in the "Help Wanted" section. Briefly describe the auto detail position in the ad. Leave your contact number and the hours when a prospective employee can call. You can also create a job listing on employment websites to try and find workers for your detailing shop.
- Contact a local high school and speak with a career counselor. Inform the counselor that you currently need additional auto detailers. Leave your contact number for the counselor to give to any students who want more information.
- Tell each person who contacts you to complete an employment application to help you narrow down your choices. Look for people who have experience working as a detailer, if you do not want to spend a lot of time training them. You may also want to consider hiring a person with no experience, to help keep your labor costs down.
- Conduct an interview with anyone you want to consider for the auto detailing position. Communicate clearly to each applicant all of the responsibilities that the position entails during an interview. Take notes on each applicant, especially if you conduct a lot of interviews.
- Decide which applicants to hire and give them a call. Set up a time for each new hire to start work. Assign a senior detailer to work with a new hire. Meet with the senior detailer on a regular basis to get an update on the new hire’s progress. Have the senior detailer continue to monitor the new hire for as long as you require constant supervision.
