How to Use a Scarifier for Lawns

How to Hire a Scarifier for Lawns

Almost all lawns need regular maintenance to get rid of the thatch and moss that can build up. Scarification is done by many methods. You can use a lawn or garden rake, but there are easier ways to get the job done, which is why using a scarifier is the best way to go. To get your lawn back in good shape, hire a gas or electric based scarifier for a few days.

  1. Determine the job. You should walk around your lawn every six months to check its condition. Look to see if new grass is growing and if any thatch has overgrown. Be aware of the level of moss buildup as well. At this point you can figure out if the lawn needs a small maintenance job or a total scarification process. If you see that the thatch is more than 1 cm thick, it will need a total job.

  2. Pick the machine. You will have to take measurements to know the size of the lawn.  This will help you pick the right scarifier model. When it comes to smaller lawns, you can use push style equipment. If you have a big lawn, you can use a self-propelled kind of scarifier. If you notice a lot of thatch to get rid of, you should choose a reel scarifier. It will have a reel between the back and front wheels. You should use a cassette model scarifier on lawn that is maintained regularly.

  3. Go ahead and hire the machine. You can go to websites such as Erento or HSS Hire to look for available equipment. Look by location and figure out the rates. Pick the scarifier that is right for the requirements and complete the process online. Make sure you check how the agency handles delivery and collection of equipment. The scarifiers are usually very large and hard to transport.
