How to Identify Viburnum
Whether you like to garden or are into plants as a hobby, learning to identify plants is something that is helpful. Hikers that enjoy treks in the wilderness sometimes like to identify the different plants they see. One such plant is Viburnum. There are around 150 known species of this plant.
Study the general characteristics of Viburnum. Learn exactly what the leaves of the plant look like. Study how the flowers and the fruit of the plant look. Know the exact color and size of the plants. Find as many pictures of Viburnum as you can, so that you can see what the plant looks like under various conditions. Thoroughly researching the plant will make it easier for you to identify it when you come across it.
Look at the leaves of the plant. Viburnum leaves have lobes on the edges and there will be two on each stem node. There are also Viburnum plants that have leaves that seem to be rather hairy. Take note to if the plant is evergreen or not.
Some Viburnum will have little fruit that grows from the plants. The color of this fruit ranges from blue to red. It will appear round and will resemble a little berry. If you take time to break the fruit of a Viburnum plant apart, then you will find that it has only one seed.
Look at any flowers that are on the plant. Viburnum plants will have flowers that consist of five petals. These flowers will be grouped together and will not be that large. The flowers are smaller than ½ inch in diameter. The coloring of the flowers can be pink or white.
Take note of the time of year. Some Viburnum plants stay the same color all year long, while others will change color.
