How to Improve Golf Swing Timing
If you are a golfer and have noticed that something about your golf swing is off, you may need to work on improving your swing timing. A golf swing is made up of several aspects and when everything does not happen correctly, your swing will lack timing. There are a couple of drills
that will help you improve your golf swing timing.
First Drill
1. Pick a five or six iron. Address a golf ball with your club in the midway of your stance. Place an additional ball behind your club head. As you move your club back, you will move the second ball back as well. Do not hinge your wrists, move your shoulders or your hips until the second ball is moved out of the way with the club.
2. Move the club up top. As you bring the club down, shift your weight on your hips toward your target. Continue bringing your club down keeping your wrists at an angle until your arms become horizontal.
3. Release your wrists with a whipping action once your club reaches the ball. Your body should be angled at the target.
Second Drill
1. Burn a CD or download a song that you like with a strong beat. Put the music player across the driving range.
2. Using a club but no ball, take swings to the beat of the song. Continue doing this about 50 times, or until you feel that the swing has become like second nature.
3. Line up about six balls and stand with the balls by your front heel. Starting with a low iron and working your way up to your hybrids and finally your driver, hit each of the ball while listening to the song. Keep with the rhythm as you hit each ball.
4. Turn off the music and try the exercise again, while keeping the song’s beat in your mind. You should notice a difference in your golf swing, as your movements should be more rhythmic.
