How to Inflate a Tubeless Wheelbarrow Wheel

Most wheelbarrows have a tubeless tire with an air valve that goes through the metal rim. In an effort to inflate a tubeless wheelbarrow wheel, you may have trouble with inflating and stopping the air from leaking out, but if you follow a few simple steps you can avoid having to purchase a new wheelbarrow tire.

Items Needed

  • Wheelbarrow wheel

  • Detergent

  • Small stick

  • Rope, tie or bungee cord

  • Compressor or foot pump

  1. Repair any defects in the tire. Look carefully for punctures or debris. Most likely the tire has deflated due to fluctuations in temperature, but it is possible that the tire pressure has lessened due to injury.

  2. Clean the bead on the wheelbarrow tire thoroughly by using a hose and detergent if needed. This is the area between the tire and the metal rim. Look carefully for punctures and debris here as well.

  3. Make sure the tire bead is aligned with the rim, and then bond it to the rim with a bead sealer.

  4. Using a rope or bungee cord tie, wrap the tie around the circumference of the tire, placing a stick between the tie and tire tread to keep the tire stable and force the bead to align with the rim.

  5. Twist the rope or tie synching the rope until it’s tight. Do this until the bead presses up against the rim. This process will help to force the wall of the tire outwards. You could also use a gentle adhesive to adhere the rope to the tire.

  6. Re-inflate the wheelbarrow tire using a compressor or a foot pump.
