How to Install Bathroom Doors
Bathroom doors come in many sizes, shapes, and materials. There are a great many indoor doors that are made of cheap lumber and are hollow. Many people replace these just because they don’t like them and they are cheap. If you are replacing your bathroom door no matter what the reason is it a fairly easy job to get done and won’t take much time either.
- Measure your existing door. These measurements are of the door only, not the frame or any molding.
- Go to your local hardware or home improvement center and find a new door of exactly those sizes. The general size for any door is 36 inches in width and 80 inches in height but yours could possibly be different.
- Remove the door by taking the hinges off the frame and from the old door. You can either re-use these hinges or replace them when installing the new door. This work will go more quickly if you have someone to help you, as it may get awkward alone.
- Replace the hinges onto the new door and lift it into position and make certain you are going to have a good fit.
- If the door needs to be painted or stained do so now prior to putting any hardware installation.
- Replace any hardware on the door such as the doorknob and the strike place for the bolt (don’t tighten down the strike plate until you know all else fits correctly). Try opening and shutting the door and testing its functionality. If all is good tighten down the strike plate and you are done.
