How to Install Bathroom Storage Cabinets
If you are short on storage in your bathroom, you can always install bathroom storage cabinets. Wall cabinets work great for small bathrooms that don't have enough floor space. Bathroom cabinets can hold towels or toiletries and make your bathroom more organized. Installing the cabinet yourself is a simple project; however, you may need a helper to help hold the cabinet in place during installation.
Supplies
- Measuring Tap
- Masking Tape
- Stud Finder (optional)
- Finishing Nails
- Hammer
- Drill
- Wood Screws
Instructions
- Decide on a location for your bathroom storage cabinet. Measure the height and length of the cabinet and then measure the space to make sure that the cabinet will fit.
- Place masking tape on the wall to serve as a guide for the placement of your cabinet.
- Find the studs in the wall so that your cabinet will be secure once it is hung. Use an electronic or magnetic stud finder to find the studs or find the studs yourself. Studs are found at the inside and outside corners of walls and alongside doors and windows. Start at one of these areas and measure every 16 inches to find the center of each stud. To make sure you have found a stud, drive a small finishing nail into the wall to make sure you hit wood. Remove the finishing nail from the wall.
- Mark the location of the studs with a piece of masking tape.
- Open the doors of the cabinet to gain access to the back of the cabinet.
- Use the drill to make a hole in the top back corner of the cabinet. Drill a hole in the other top corner and make sure that the holes will match up to the studs in the wall. Do the same for the bottom corners if you are putting four screws in the cabinet.
- Place the cabinet against the wall in the correct position, matching each of the holes to a stud. Enlist a helper to hold the bathroom storage cabinet in place.
- Place the wood screws into the holes on the cabinet and drill the screws into the wall.
