How to Install Butcher Block Countertops
Butcher block consists of slices of wood that are glued together to form a slab that provides you with a stout area to work on. This is great for those "at home" chefs that do lots of chopping. A butcher block also adds warmth to your kitchen as well.
- Choose the butcher block. Make sure to select a butcher block that matches the decor of the kitchen. If you have wooden cabinets, select a block that matches the wood as closely as possible. It should also be noted that since this is a custom order delivery takes anywhere from four to six weeks. Keep this in mind when figuring in the time frame that you would like to install your butcher block.
- Take off your old counter top. Making sure not to nick or scratch your surrounding cabinets, remove your existing counter top.
- Connect your corner supports. Place the supports underneath the counters in order to give added support to the counter top.
- Place the counter top on the cabinet. Position the counter top directly on top of the cabinet. Using screws, tighten it securely in place. Be sure to leave a small gap of space to insert the back splash.
- Install the back splash for your butcher block. Once you have secured the counter top then it is time to install the back splash. If you are using tile, then cut the tile with a continuous rim blade and then secure the tile to the wall. If you are using other materials for your back splash then just follow the manufacturer's instructions.
