How to Install Home Alarm Monitoring
Home alarm systems are provided for homeowners who need to secure their belongings and keep their families safe. While there is no guarantee that home alarm systems can prevent burglaries, studies have shown burglars think twice before targeting a home that is protected with an alarm system.
Instructions
Step 1: Begin by reading any documentation that comes with your home alarm system. This may include the warranty, user's manuals, installation schematics, warnings and registration information. Reading all of your documents helps to know what will void your warranty and how to prevent these problems.
Step 2: Grab a notepad and pen so you can begin sketching where to place the variety of components that make up your home alarm system. Pick out windows that you believe to be most vulnerable to intruders. These windows may be those blocked from street view because of trees or a fence, and do not forget to include those easily accessible with a ladder.
Step 3: Find a middle location within your home where a mounted siren will be heard from any room. Do not block it by placing it inside a faux cabinet to make it blend in with the decor. The sound needs to be loud and clear. You need to have easy access to an electrical outlet. Mount the back plate of the siren first and only loosely attach the actual siren. You need to hook up the other wires first before being able to securely connect the bell portion of the siren setup.
Step 4: Choose a location for the control panel. Ideally, you want to place it next to the door that you usually use when entering your home. Make sure you have an electrical outlet nearby. Install the control panel by drilling a hole into the wall and threading the wire that will hook up the panel to the outlet behind the wall. Running the wire behind the wall protects the panel from being tampered with.
Step 5: Put in the door and window sensors. Professionals use double-sided tape to attach the magnetic portion and the switch piece to ensure a perfect connection. Once you have the sensors set up perfectly, mount them for good with the screws that came with the home alarm kits.
Step 6: Run the wires and connect the sensors to form the closed circuit. Next connect the wires to the siren. Also install a battery backup.
Step 7: Link the siren to the control panel
