How to Install Patio Doors
Porches and patios make a great place to relax, spend time with friends and family or enjoy barbecues. If your patio is attached to your home, you may want to consider installing doors that lead from inside your home to outside on the patio. There are a variety of types of patio doors to choose from and most are easy to install.
Items Needed
- Tape measure
- Nails
- Hammer
- Patio door
Step 1: Use a tape measure to measure the door frame. Measure from the top of the door frame to the bottom and from one side to the other. Be sure to make note of the measurement on a piece of paper.
Step 2: Visit your local home improvement store to purchase the patio doors you desire. Be sure to check the measurement you wrote down to be sure the doors will fit in the door frame. The measurement for the door can be found on the outside of the box. If you cannot find the measurements, ask a store associate to help you.
Step 3: Open the new patio doors and remove each piece. Dispose of the packaging and lay each part of the door out on the floor. Read the instruction manual and make sure you have located all of the pieces.
Step 4: Stand the doors up and carry them towards the door frame. You may want to ask a friend to help you install the doors. Slide the doors into the door frame and line the doors up. Open the doors to make sure they open and close easily and are able to move properly within the door frame.
Step 5: Use a hammer to pound the nails into place to secure the doors into the door frame. You may want to reference the instruction manual that came with the doors to see exactly how to install the specific type of patio doors. Once the doors have be secured into place, open and close them again to make sure they are still able to move properly.
