How to Install Recessed Lighting

Recessed lights add an updated and modern feel to a new home design or construction. These lights also allow you to adjust the lighting level in your room. Not only are these features inexpensive, they are also energy efficient and will aid you in lowering your utility bills. Before you begin this project ensure that your main breaker is off.

How to Install Recessed Lighting:

Step 1: Determine the desired location for your recessed lighting.

Step 2: Locate the ceiling joists by using a stud finder.

Step 3: Drill a hole into the ceiling joists. Determine if there are any obstructions by pushing an uncoiled clothes hanger through the hole.

Step 4: Draw an outline onto the ceiling in the exact location for the new recessed lights.

Step 5: Use a keyhole saw to cut out this outline.

Step 6: Run wires from the junction box to this location in the ceiling. These wires should measure eight inches.

Step 7: Clamp off the wires and fasten then to the junction box using wire nuts.

Step 8: Push the recessed light fixture into the new hole in the ceiling. Attach all clamps according to the manufacturer's specifications.

Step 9: Turn the main breaker back on and ensure that the recessed lights work properly.
