How to Install Tin Roof Panels
Tin roofs provide a lot of protection from harsh weather like snow and ice. These types of roofs will cost more than traditional roofs, but they will also last a lot longer. You should be able to install the roof panels yourself if you're not afraid of heights.
Things You'll Need:
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Paper
- Nail Gun
- Hammer
- Nails
- Tim Panels
- Measure your roofs dimensions with a tape measure. Make sure you get as accurate of measurements as possible because the measurements will be used to determine how much material you need to buy. Draw a sketch of the roof to use as a blueprint.
- Take your blueprints to a local home improvement and hardware store to buy the materials and tools. Make sure you have a representative at the store help you buy the materials and tools. Make sure you are buying name brand panels and not cheaper ones. The cheaper kind might save you a lot of money at first, but will cause more expensive fixes later.
- Install the panels over the existing roof. Most of the time this can be done but ask a local expert just to make sure. You should be able to use a nail gun to install the panels, but consult with the same expert again.
- Attach the metal flashing to prevent any leaks. A lot of damage can occur if water seeps into the old roofing material. Usually metal flashing is attached to the fascia trim board. You should probably install the metal flashing with a hammer because a nail gun could damage the fascia board.
