How to Install Trailer Awnings
Awnings provide great shelter from the sun. Usually they are made out of a light metal structure (i.e. steel, aluminum, iron) with a fabric (i.e. vinyl, polyester, canvas, cotton) stretched over the top of it. Once installed you will have a pleasant place to relax outdoors.
Things That You Will Need
- A trailer awning kit
- A measuring tape
- A marker
- A power drill
- A screwdriver
- Some silicone spray
- Look for your trailer’s floor line. This is where you will attach the bottom brackets.
- Use a measuring tape and a marker to mark the location of the bottom brackets.
- Attach the awning railing to the top of your trailer.
- Hold the rail to the side of your trailer so that you can mark where the screws go.
- Drill the holes for your screws.
- Use the screws and bolts that come with your installation kit to attach the rail.
- Use a screwdriver to tighten the screws and bolts in place.
- Attach the awning’s bottom brackets to your trailer’s floor line. Make sure that these brackets will not get in the way of doors and windows so that your awning isn’t obtrusive either.
- Mark the place where the screws will go.
- Drill the holes for the screws.
- Use the screws from your kit to screw the bottom brackets into place.
- Pull your awning’s tube down, slide the upper arm and use the knobs to adjust the tension arm and unroll your awning.
- Apply silicone spray to the tension arms and adjustment knobs in order to lubricate them and make them last longer.
