How to Install Vinyl Folding Doors
Installing a vinyl door can be a cost-effective way of covering an entrance way where a standard door will not fit. There are variety of styles to choose from. Installation is an easy process and takes a minimal amount of time.
- Measure the length of your track. This will ensure that you purchase the correct size vinyl door for your entryway.
- Select the type of door you want. Once you have gotten the correct measurements, go to your local home improvement store to select the color and style of door you want. If you are installing a patio door, your choices for vinyl include a sliding door, French style, as well as out-swing and in-swing French. These are typically available in wood grain options or white. If you are buying a door for a closet then you can choose from folding, sliding or accordion style.
- Assemble the tools that you will need for the job. To install the vinyl door you will need a flat head screwdriver, and 1 1/2 inch flat screws. You may also need a hacksaw to trim the door if it is too long.
- Move the door over to the side of the track. Hold it there and use your screws to secure the track in tightly. These type of screws must be screwed into solid wood as they will not stay in drywall or tile.
- Move the door to the opposite side of the track. Repeat the same method of tightening the screws into the other side.
- Place the door next to the mounting panel. Close it while holding the panel in place and screw the panel into the jamb.
- Test the door. If the screws are too tight then the door will not slide. If this occurs, loosen the screws an 1/8 inch and test again.
