How to Install Vinyl Plank Flooring
Vinyl plank flooring looks just like real wood flooring, only it comes standard with a smaller price tag. It also provides a waterproof covering for your floors and has less restrictions of how to clean it then typical wood options. The process of installing it is not difficult either.
Items Needed:
- Vinyl plank flooring
- Floor roller
- Wood putty
- Tile cutter
- Measuring tape
- Primer
- Patching compound
- Adhesive
- Chalk line
- Measuring tape
- Tools
- Putty knife
- Decide which room you want to vinyl flooring for. Measure the area of the room you where you are going to place the flooring. Do not forget to calculate in any measurements for closets.
- Choose the type of vinyl flooring you want for the room. Order enough of it, so it covers the entire surface of the room.
- Remove the threshold(s) and baseboards in the room.
- Pull up any carpet that is on already on the floor. You must also pull up any vinyl already in place. Make sure you sand any areas where adhesive stuck to the floor. If it is a smooth finish floor, you can skip this step.
- Fill any holes, cracks or other similar blemishes with a patching compound. The compound should be pressed into the holes. Be sure that the compound is smooth and even.
- Sweep up any debris remaining on the flooring, especially since you ran the sander across the floor. Use a mop to further clean up any dirt remaining.
- Begin at the main entrance or the location that is the main focal point in the room. Start laying down the flooring by rows, but do not pull off the adhesive on the back yet. Use a chalk line or a writing utensil to mark off where you are going to lay down the first row of planks.
- Go to the corner and begin tearing off the adhesive and lining up the planks to match the chalk lines you just drew. You must lay down small notch trowel to glue the vinyl to the floor, if it does not come with the sticky backing.
- Continue the same until you complete the room. You need to cut pieces to fit accordingly.
- Find any gaps and fill them with wood putty.
- Run a floor roller across the floor to make sure it sticks.
