How to Install Wide Body Kits

Wide body kits are after market body panels that highlight the horizontal dimensions of your car to give it a Coke bottle shape. The kit allows the car to spread out near the ground and at the tire wells. Wide body kits are accessible for the majority of cars however, it is important to learn the proper way to install the kit.

Instructions:

Things you will need:

  • Power drill

  • Screwdriver set

  • Wrench set

  • Painter's tape

  • Grease pen

  1. Place the car in "Park" and apply the parking brake. Take off the front bumper by unscrewing the retaining screws. Depending on the make, year and model of your car, the screws are either accessible from under the front bumper or from inside the engine bay. Insert the new wide body bumper into the old bumper place and screw it in with a wrench.

  2. Take off the rear bumper. Take out the retaining screws from the under of the car and slide the rear bumper off. Slide the new wide body bumper on and screw it into place.

  3. Set the wheel well extensions in place. Use painter's tape to secure the extensions around the wheel wells. Make sure the wheel-well extensions line up with the bumper edges. Mark with a grease pen where the screw holes are.

  4. Drill holes for the wheel-well extensions. Use a power drill with a drill bit that is smaller than the screw diameter. Screw the screws into position to secure the wheel-well extensions. Remove the painter's tape.

  5. Unscrew and take out the side skirts. Screw in the new side skirts tightly because they will be exposed to the debris on the roads.

  6. Take the car for a test drive, about five miles. See if any of the body kit panels shake or move while you are driving. If they do, then re-tighten the bolts or screws.
