How to Install Wood Shelves
Installing wood shelves in a room will help you organize a lot of stuff you have laying around. Most people with a large book collection like having them on shelves instead of boxed up because sorting through the books is a lot easier. There are many types of kits you can buy that provide all the materials needed for assembly.
Things You'll Need:
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Paper
- Level
- Stud Finder
- Measure the area you want the shelf to be located. Write the dimensions down and take them to a home care store.
- Try finding a kit that matches really close to how big you want the shelf to be. It obviously will be hard to find a kit that is exactly the same size you want, but you can probably find one close. The kits will save you a lot of time because all the supplies will be provided. All you have to do is assemble the pieces. Talk with a representative at the store about purchasing all the necessary supplies if you cannot find a kit close enough in size.
- Mark the spots on the wall where each stud is located and where you want the final height to be. Use a stud finder to find exact locations of each stud. Use a level to make sure the marks are perfectly straight.
- Screw the shelf frame into the wall where a stud is located because it will be a lot sturdier than just screwing it into drywall. The weight of the shelf might cause the screws to rip out of the drywall. The studs will provide a much sturdier frame.
