How to Install a Bathroom Sink Drain
If your sink is dated or has suffered from the effects of wear and tear, it may be time to replace it. Believe it or not this project is fairly simple to complete even for the novice do-it-yourselfer. With a few tools and an afternoon you'll have your new sink installed in no time.
What You'll Need:
- P-trap
- Sink drain assembly
- Assistant
- Wrench
- Silicone sealant
- Begin coating the inside of the drain hole with a silicone sealant. However, you'll only need to place the sealant on the area where the drain sleeve will be positioned.
- Next, hold the portion of the drain assembly securely in place just beneath the sink. You'll want to ensure that the lever where the sink stopper attaches is in the back, beneath the plunger hole stopper.
- To complete this step you'll need an assistant. Ask someone to screw in the drain sleeve while you are still holding the drain assembly in place.
- Begin tightening the nut that is located just below the drain. If done correctly, it should lie just against the rubber seal snugly but not too tight.
- Wipe clean any of the sealant that may have squeezed of the edges of the drain sleeve inside the sink.
- Attach the fixture water outlet and P-trap to the drain assembly. You'll also need to tighten the slip nuts.
- Connect the lever between the faucets to the drain stopper assembly.
- Allow all of the sealant around the drain sleeve to dry for at least five to six hours before moving to the next step.
- Once dry, turn the faucet on to ensure proper water flow. You'll also want to check under the sink basin for any leaks to complete this project.
