How to Install a Raised Paver Patio
The raised paver patio dry installation process is quick and easy to install. With the dry installation process, instead of mortar, a combination of sand and crushed gravel is used to attach the pavers. Installing a raised paver patio can completed over a weekend.
How to Install a Raised Paver Patio:
Take measurements of the desired length and width of the patio.
Hammer a wood stake into each of the four corners.
Tie string or twine to each stake and along the outer edge to mark off the construction area.
Take the measurements for the paver patio to a home improvement store. Based on the measurements determine how many pavers are needed. As a general guide, purchase 400 stones for every 100 feet.
Dig a 4-inch hole into the ground using a shovel.
Make an edge along the border of the building area using four 2-by-8's. Measure each of the four pieces and cut to fit one 2-by-8 along each of the four inner walls the construction area. Along the inner wall, place each 2-by-8 so four inches of the board is out the construction area and four inches is sticking inside the construction area. The four 2-by-8's can be attached to each other using nails and a hammer.
Pour two inches of crushed gravel onto the bottom of the construction area. Press the gravel down using a hand tamper. Pour on another two inches of gravel and repeat the pressing down process.
Pour one inch of sand on top of the crushed gravel and smooth out evenly.
Beginning in one of the corners, place the paver on one at a time on top of the sand. Place each paver so they are flush against the wood border.
Use a rubber mallet to lightly tap each paver into place.
Pour sand on top of the pavers and distribute evenly and into the cracks.
