How to Insure an Antique Automobile
Antique cars are typically more valuable than their modern counterparts, if they are in good repair and in working condition. Antique cars are considered a "high risk" and insurance for them can be hard to find. Not all insurance companies will insure a antique automobile; however, there are some insurance companies that do.
How to Insure an Antique Automobile
- Assess the value of your vehicle. If you are unsure about its value you can hire an antique car appraiser in your area. You must know the value before the car can be properly insured against loss or damage.
- Request quotes from some of the major antique/classic car insurers such as Hagerty Insurance, J.C. Taylor Auto Insurance or Grundy Worldwide. These companies specifically insure antique or classic automobiles.
- If you can, ask your current insurance company for a referral. If they do not cover classic/antique cars they might know companies that will.
- Look in the back of any classic auto magazines. There will be listings for different insurance agencies.
- Once you receive quotes from different insurers it's time to compare. Cost is not only a factor when choosing antique automobile insurance, you must also look at the type of coverage, limits and exclusions. Read the fine print and ask questions.
- Once you have decided on an insurance carrier, fill out the application. The insurance carrier will ask for pictures of the antique car both inside and out that must be sent to the agency.
- When approved, send the down payment and the antique car will be insured.
