How to Interpret a General Electric Appliance Model Number
Located on your appliances, usually on a sticker is an appliance model number. General Electric (GE), a large corporation headquartered in Fairfield, CT places model numbers on its appliances, just like other companies, to assist customers in properly repairing their particular device and tracking the correct parts.
- Look for the serial number that should be located somewhere on your appliance. The location will vary based upon the type of appliance it is.
- Determine the model number by looking at the first two letters that should come right before a series of six numbers.
- Look at the first letter to establish what month GE produced the device. To identify the month your device was manufactured, find your first letter on the following chart:
- A=January; D=February; F=March; G=April; H=May; L=June; M=July; R=August; S=September; T=October; V=November; Z=December.
- Look at the second number to find what year GE manufactured your appliance. The letters run from clear though the alphabet from A to Z, with some letters having two letters to signify this piece of information.
