How to Interview a Part-Time Housecleaner
A part-time housecleaner comes to your home on an agreed upon schedule to help or do household cleaning chores. It is important to interview a housecleaner before hiring, in order to be sure they are a good fit for both your budget and the work you would like done.
- Ask about experience, such as how long potential housecleaners have been in the business and if they have references that you can call. Find out if they are currently cleaning other homes and if not, find out about their last job and why they left. Call any references you are given.
- Discuss what he or she will and will not do, as part of cleaning, and ask about fees. Find out what each fee covers; you may have to pay an extra fee for certain cleaning services. It is important to find this out upfront.
- Find out if the person you are interviewing is the one that will be cleaning your home each time or if other workers will be sent to your home.
- Ask about insurance and guarantees on work. Insurance is important in case of damage or injury.
- Spend some time on general chit chat. This will help you to get to know the person a little better. Pay attention and listen for clues to the personality of the person you are thinking about hiring.
- Get permission to perform a background check. If hired, this person will be spending time in your home and around your family; you will want to know that there are no serious criminal issues in their background.
- Discuss the cleaning schedule you would like. You will want to know how often you will need him or her to come and if you will have a set schedule. This is especially important if you are not comfortable having someone in your home while you are not there or even if you would be more comfortable being out of the house while cleaning is going on.
