How to Lace a Skate Shoe

Skateboarding shoes are shoes designed to be worn when you do serious skateboarding. The shoes are generally more padded giving them a puffy look. They're also designed to be worn as street shoes so that the wearer does not have to change foot gear after skateboarding.

  • Select the proper skate shoe for your skate style and foot. Skate shoes will generally provide more padding around the ankles and heels. Some shoes may even have padding on the front of the shoe to help protect against falls.

  • Take the shoe lace and thread it through the bottom two holes. Pull the shoelace up and make it taut. You want to make sure that the ends match up and you have an even amount of shoe lace on each side.

  • Take the left shoelace and lace it through the next right hole. Then take the right shoe lace and lace it through the next left hole. You should have made an X in the center of the shoe.

  • Check that the shoelace remains even on each side by pulling the ends of the shoelace up and checking that there is an even amount of shoelace on each side. If there is not, loosen the X and pull up on the side with less shoelace until the ends are even.

  • Once the shoe is laced completely up, put your finger under the many X's you made in the center of the shoe. Pull up with your finger causing all of the X's to loosen.

  • Check one final time to make sure the laces are even on both side of the shoe, put the shoe on and tighten the laces by pulling up.
