How to Learn Ballroom Dancing

There are many different ways to learn ballroom dancing. Taking lessons at a local school is one of the more popular methods. There are also DVD lessons available to buy as well as online classes. One thing to try is to buy DVD lessons to practice at home with a partner, then sign up for local classes if the lessons are fun.

  • Sit down with your dance partner to decide the best way to learn ballroom dancing. If you have a busy schedule, or you are uncomfortable dancing in front of other people, consider buying a ballroom dancing DVD. Go online to look for a DVD to buy, so you can take the lessons at home when you and your partner have some extra time.

  • Find online ballroom dancing lessons. If you search hard enough, you should be able to find some beginner lessons online for free. Take a few lessons with your partner and then decide whether or not to seek more advanced instruction.

  • Sign up for ballroom dancing classes at a local studio. Look in the Yellow Pages to find a dance studio that offers lessons. Go to the dance studio to watch a class to help you decide whether or not to sign up.

  • Speak with the ballroom dancing instructor to see if you and your partner can take a free lesson. Talk with your partner after you take the lesson, to determine if you want to sign up for classes. You should also find out the cost of the dance lessons before you sign up.

  • Ask the instructor what you should wear to class. Buy the apparel you need as well as the proper footwear. After you take a few lessons, if you decide to continue you should also practice on your own at home. You will be able to master different dance steps by working on your own time with your partner.
